• From one of the five most prized Dahongpao tea groves (Shuiliandong) at Wuyi National Park.

• Bought directly from the area's traditional famers.

• Flavor Profile:

Medium weight rock flavor indicative of teas grown in the mineralized red clay stone found at Shuiliandong, Wuyi National Park. Full-bodied, young and sweet. Baked three times, "country-style". Not only is it exquisite sipping to stimulate thought, if your budget can afford it, this steeps great just thrown in a thermos before a hike or walk.

General Description of Dahongpao:

Genetically Pure Dahongpao is now the most expensive tea in the world since the teas' remarkable complexity and other more esoteric qualities have become widely known. From a UNESCO World Heritage site in northwest Fujian, these trees and this tea curing method were wedded perhaps three hundred years ago. Considered an intellectual or thought-provoking infusion, this is now the preferred drink of China's leaders, and a few sips quickly shows you why.

The Dahongpao tea is a mixture of tea varietals with a secretive culture around it. Without aging its leaves infuse a great depth of flavor, but the tea is identified by the sensations it creates in the head and not by taste. The taste of a Wuyi Rock Tea will be lighter or heavier depending on how many times the leaves have been baked. If aging in a moist environment, a Dahongpao vintage will need to be re-baked about every two years until after ten years the tea is finally "finished". However, many regard the fresh made Dahongpao as the best. Store this tea carefully because it will absorb the odors around it.
